Charlie Kirk – The Legacy Still Carries On

You know, a year has gone by now since the Lord called Charlie Kirk home.

He left a precious wife, Erika, and two little ones, a daughter and a son. And our hearts go out to them. We pray for them. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. He really is.

Now, a lot of people knew Charlie as a man who stood on platforms and talked with young people. And he did that. But the thing that mattered most to Charlie was Jesus Christ. He said so himself. He gave his life to the Lord way back in the fifth grade. And he never got over that. He used to say, “I’m nothing without Jesus.” That is a good confession. That is the right place to start.

Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” That was Charlie. He lived for the Lord. And when the Lord took him, it was gain for Charlie. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope.

Charlie loved the Word of God. He wanted young men especially to find something better than anger and emptiness. He wanted them to meet the Saviour. He would go onto those campuses and reason with them. Some listened. Some didn’t. But the seed was sown. And God’s Word does not return void. Isaiah tells us that. The Lord watches over His Word to perform it.

Death did not stop that work.

Erika has had a very heavy load to carry this year. Grief is a real thing. The nights are long. The world is not always kind. But the Lord has sustained her. And one of the beautiful things, and I think this is just like the Lord, is that the Word is still going out from that home.

Erika has this Bible reading ministry, BIBLEin365. People are going through the Scriptures day by day, Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs. And her voice is there in the morning as folks open the Book. My own wife hears that voice as she does her devotions. Isn’t that something? A year later, and the Word of God is still being read in homes because of that family. The grass withers. The flower fades. But the Word of our God stands forever.

That is the legacy that lasts.

At the memorial, Erika did a hard thing. She forgave. She remembered what Jesus said on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” She said that is what Jesus did, and that is what Charlie would have done. That is the gospel, friend. That is Calvary. Hate does not have the last word. The blood of Jesus does.

Charlie loved Romans 8:28. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” He believed that. He also loved Isaiah 6:8—“Here am I. Send me.” He said it. And the Lord took him up on it. We do not always understand the Lord’s timing. We do not have to. We just trust Him. He is good. His mercy endures forever.

So today we are not celebrating a dark day. We are remembering a brother who loved Jesus. We are praying for a widow and two children. We are thanking God that the gospel is still being preached. And we are asking the Lord to raise up many more who will simply say, “Here am I, Lord. Send me.”

If you never met Charlie, that is all right. Meet his Lord. Jesus is still saving. He is still speaking through His Word. Open the Book. That is where life is.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
