The Balfour Declaration, the British Mandate, and God’s Faithfulness to Israel

Standing with Israel in Light of Scripture and History

Folks, as you open and read the Word of God, we see the Lord’s hand moving in history.

I stand with Israel and the Jewish people because the Bible is clear.

God has a plan for His ancient people, and we are watching it unfold before our eyes.

Recent events in Jerusalem, with protesters carrying British flags and Israeli flags side by side, bring to mind Britain’s role in Jewish history. Let’s look at what happened and what the Scriptures say.

The Balfour Declaration – A Historic Promise

In 1917, during the First World War, British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour wrote these important words:

“His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object…”

This was not man inventing something new. It was a recognition of the deep biblical connection the Jewish people have always had to that land.

From Promise to International Law: The British Mandate

That declaration was a strong political statement, but God used it further. At the San Remo Conference in 1920 and then through the British Mandate for Palestine, the nations made it part of international law.

The Mandate clearly said:

“Whereas recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country…”

Britain was given the responsibility to help the Jewish people return, settle, and rebuild in their ancient homeland, while protecting the rights of others living there. It was a remarkable moment in history.

Solidarity with the British People Amid Difficult Leadership

It was good to see those Israeli believers carrying British flags in the streets of Jerusalem. They were saying, “We love the British people, even if we disagree with some policies of the government.” Many people in the UK today feel they are under heavy pressure from the Starmer government. Economic troubles, cultural shifts, and policies that seem hard on ordinary citizens have left many feeling discouraged.

The Bible teaches us that God is sovereign over the nations. In Old Testament times, the Lord sometimes raised up difficult leaders to chasten His people when the nation turned away from Him.

We should pray for revival in Britain, that the nation would return to its Christian foundations and stand with Israel once again, as it did in the days of the Balfour Declaration.

Modern UK Policy and Shifting Winds

Today we see a different direction in parts of the British government. Sanctions against Jewish organisations helping Jews settle in Judea and Samaria, along with other policies, cause real concern.

We remember the problems during the Corbyn years, and we continue to see criticism of Israel that often seems one-sided.

While we pray for all leaders, we must speak the truth in love when policies appear to oppose what God is doing with His people.

What Does the Bible Say?

You know in your Bible. This return of the Jewish people to the land is prophecy being fulfilled:

Ezekiel 36:24 NKJV — “For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.”

Amos 9:14-15 NKJV — “I will bring back the captives of My people Israel… They shall no longer be pulled up from the land I have given them.”

Jesus spoke of these very days in Luke 21. We are living in exciting times, friends.

A Call to Biblical Clarity

We thank God for the good things Britain has done in the past. But when any government turns against the Jewish people’s right to live in their biblical homeland, we as Christians must stand on the Word of God.

Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), support Israel, and keep sharing the Gospel with everyone. God keeps every promise He makes.

“I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you…” (Genesis 12:3 NKJV)
