Hello, my friends.
With the Covid-19 situation improving greatly here in Scotland (no deaths for several days at the time of writing), the government has brought in new rules requiring face coverings in shops and supermarkets, while allowing pubs and restaurants to open with only one-metre distancing and no masks.
Many people are finding these rules confusing and inconsistent. It seems strange that masks are mandatory in quiet shops with two-metre distancing, yet not required in busy, noisy pubs and restaurants where people are eating, drinking, talking and laughing.
I’m concerned that some of these measures feel more like social engineering than clear, science-based public health policy. The mixed messages from different parts of the UK (England vs Scotland) and the constant changes have caused a lot of confusion.
What worries me most is the effect on vulnerable people, especially people with disabilities, those with asthma, autism, or other conditions who cannot wear masks. Some have been verbally abused or stared at, which is completely unacceptable.
My own son is nonverbal, autistic, and needs to see faces for communication. These rules make everyday life much harder for families like ours.
Let’s pray for wisdom for our leaders and for compassion in our communities. We should obey the authorities where we can (Romans 13), but we must also show grace and understanding toward those who struggle with these restrictions.
In all of this, our greatest hope is not in government policies, but in the Lord. May He give us patience, love, and discernment in these confusing times.
God bless you,
Peter
