I found it interesting while watching online sermons on 2 Samuel 21:15-22 where the passage speaks about the slaying of four different giants.
When the Pastor-teacher spoke on of verse 19, he got mixed up, where in his bible translation spoke of in his ESV bible saying:-
And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, the Bethlehemite, struck down Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
We know as Christians and even non-Christians know it was David that killed Goliath from “1 Samuel 17:50 KJV 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but [there was] no sword in the hand of David.”
Various other translations read this, such as CSB, NASB, NIV 1984, Darby and frustratingly the new bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible translation, they miss out the words “the brother of”.
The KJV reads “2Samual 21:19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew [the brother of] Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear [was] like a weaver's beam.”
The parallel text passage of this verse is in “1 Chronicles 20:5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff [was] like a weaver's beam.”
It can be dangerous and confusing if a new believer reads through their Bible and comes across these verses. Use a KJV ~ NKJV version of the Bible with your own version of the Bible to keep yourself right in your own Bible study.
