Out on the long, lonely trails of Scotland, when the legs are screaming and the mist is thick, one verse keeps me moving:
“But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)
I even have that promise embroidered on my Bible cover so I can touch it when life gets hard.
Sometimes on trails and during races, I notice stickers; I always watch for them as potential way markers. Occasionally, I see stickers advertising products or even scripture verses.
Watching Yishai Fleisher today, he shared something beautiful: as he walked around Israel, he noticed these on little memorial stickers for nearly 800 young men and women who have laid down their lives since 7 October 2023.
The project is called Stickers of Meaning – www.stickersofmeaning.org
A man named Jeff Weiss started it. Jeff is a marathon runner who made Aliyah in 2022. While he was clocking up the kilometres around Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, he kept seeing hand-made memorial stickers on lamp posts and bus stops.
Rain and sun were fading them. He felt led not to let these names and these words disappear. So, he started photographing everyone, contacting families, and building a website so the memory would last forever.
Each sticker has:
- A smiling photo of the fallen soldier or civilian
- Their name and age (so many are only 19, 20, 21…)
- A short motivational quote or Bible verse that was special to them or their family
Some are clearly Messianic believers. Many are from secular or traditional Jewish homes.
God loves everyone, and everyone deserves to be remembered. When you scroll through the site, you can’t help but weep and pray at the same time.
You see Psalm Psalms 145:4, Psalms 119:72 and simple lines like “One day your life will pass before your eyes. Make sure it’s worth watching”.
These are not just Israeli heroes. They stood in the gap so the darkness would not spread further.
And one day, because Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life, we will meet many of them around the throne.
I invite you to visit www.stickersofmeaning.org
Pick a few stickers. Pray through the names for their families and friends. Maybe even print one or two and stick them in your Bible, screenshot on your mobile.
Because they ran and did not grow weary.
Now we run for them, until we all soar together on eagles’ wings.
Peter
