Last night ~ wee hours here in Scotland ~ I couldn’t sleep, stirring to watch Cross Examined. I listened to a powerful Q&A from Western Carolina University honouring Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was taken from us too soon.
The talk, If God, Why Evil? led by Dr. Frank Turek, hit me like a storm that was happening outside. It wasn’t just talk ~ it was a battle cry for Christ’s victory over evil’s lies, even when the world screams blame and doubt. But this truth burns clear: Evil’s loud, but Jesus is louder. Let me share what I heard, in my voice, for every soul wrestling darkness with faith.
The Big Question: If God, Why Evil?
Turek kicked off with the question we all whisper when life cuts deep: If God’s real, why’s there evil? He didn’t dodge it. Evil’s not God’s fault ~ it’s ours, ‘cause we’ve got free will. God could’ve made us robots, but He gave us choice to love Him or turn away.
That’s why evil slinks in, like a shadow when you step from the light. But here’s the kicker: Evil proves there’s good, and good points to God. Turek said it plain—without God, there’s no yardstick to call evil wrong. Charlie Kirk lived for that truth, shining Christ’s light, and evil hated him for it. But hate doesn’t win ~ Jesus does.
The Ruckus: Blaming Charlie for Evil’s Work
Midway through, a lass in the crowd caused a stir, shouting that Charlie’s bold words—on marriage, gender, faith ~ stoked hate and led to his murder. My heart sank. She stormed out, but Turek stood like a rock.
“I’ll answer that,” he said, calmly but firm. He didn’t let the lie stick. Charlie’s words weren’t hate ~ they were love, the kind that calls sin what it is to save souls. John 15:18 says the world hated Jesus first, and Charlie got that same heat for preaching truth.
Blaming him for his death? That’s evil’s lie, pinning the crime on the one who spoke truth. Christ’s victory? It’s Charlie’s legacy, still sparking faith.
Questions from the Heart, Answers from the Word
The Q&A ran long, over two hours, with folks pouring out raw questions. Here’s what hit me:
- On Charlie’s killer: Someone asked if we should pray for them. Turek said aye, pray for their soul ~ but justice isn’t hate. Bible’s clear: Love the sinner, loathe the sin, and protect the flock.
- Is good just God’s whim? Nah, Turek shut that down. God is the standard of good, not chasing rules or making them up.
- What about heaven if loved ones choose hell? Hard one. Turek said hell’s their choice ~ God won’t force love. Heaven’s joy honours our “yes” to Christ, not our pain for others’ “no.”
- Tough topics like Israel or transgender issues? Turek leaned in ~ support God’s people but call out wrongs; speak truth in love, not shame. An ex-Mormon lass shared her struggle; he urged her to find a Bible-true church, doubts and all.
Every answer pointed back to Christ’s cross ~ where evil thought it won, but Jesus crushed it, rising to give us victory.
A Fire for Scotland’s Souls
This Q&A wasn’t just talk ~ it was a forge, sharpening faith against evil’s lies. That lass blaming Charlie? She’s the world’s noise, loud but fading. Turek’s stand, Charlie’s life ~ they’re Christ’s victory, shouting louder. For us born-again believers, it’s a call: Live bold, love true, stand firm. Evil’s lie says truth causes harm; Christ’s victory says truth sets free.
I’m praying this sparks you, like it did me, to share the gospel, whether in Scotland’s hills or beyond. Got doubts? Bring them to Jesus. He’s bigger than evil’s shadow.
What’s one way you’re seeing Christ’s victory today?
Drop a comment ~ let’s keep the fire burning.
