In the Beginning – Trusting God’s Word on Creation

During the night, I couldn’t sleep, so I listened to a podcast from “Once Lost Ministries” about the Charlie Kirk Memorial, as Kyle broke down different ways the gospel was shared. One idea that Kyle spoke about was Creationism, as some believe in a Young-Earth Creationism (YEC) or Old-Earth Creationism (OEC), I want to share our stand.

When we open our Bibles to Genesis 1:1, we read these words: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” That is a powerful declaration! It sets the foundation for everything we believe as born-again Christians, that God is the Creator, the Author of all life, and His Word is true. But as we walk through this world, we hear different voices, even among believers, about how and when God created. Some say the earth is young, created in six literal days a few thousand years ago. Others believe the earth is old, stretching back billions of years. Here at Born Again Christians, I want to share why I believe God’s Word points us to a young earth, while encouraging you to hold fast to the essentials of our faith.

Let’s start with Genesis. The Bible says God created everything in six days and rested on the seventh. The word for “day” in Hebrew, yom, often means a 24-hour day, especially when it’s tied to “evening and morning” as we see in Genesis 1. When we trace the genealogies from Adam to Abraham, we get a timeline of about 6,000 to 10,000 years. That’s what I believe the Bible teaches, a young earth, created by God’s mighty hand, just as it says. When I read those verses, it’s like God is saying, “Trust My Word. I did this, and I did it My way.” For me, that’s enough.

Now, some dear brothers and sisters in Christ look at the same Scriptures and see room for an older earth. They take a figurative view of Genesis, things like rock layers or starlight traveling vast distances, and they suggest the “days” of Genesis could be long ages, maybe millions or billions of years. They love the Lord and believe He created everything, but they think He took His time, guiding the process over eons. I respect their heart for God, but I’m concerned when we lean too heavily on man’s ideas over God’s clear Word. If we stretch those days to fit what scientists say, are we letting the world shape our view of Scripture instead of letting Scripture shape our view of the world?

The Bible tells us the heavens declare God’s glory (Psalm 19:1), and I believe the evidence around us supports a young creation. Those rock layers? They could point to a global flood, like Noah’s, laying down sediments in a hurry. Those distant stars? God could have created their light already reaching us, just as He made Adam a grown man, not a baby. Science is a gift, but it’s not our authority, God’s Word is. When Jesus spoke of Adam and Eve, He treated them as real people at the beginning of creation (Mark 10:6), not billions of years later.

Here’s the heart of it: whether you lean toward a young earth or an old one, what matters most is that we trust God as Creator. He spoke, and it was so. He made you, me, and every living thing with purpose. The world will try to pull us away from that truth, saying life came from chance or random processes. That’s where we draw the line, God’s design is no accident. Let us all keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, and hold fast to His Word.

So, study Genesis, pray, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Please don’t let this article divide us. We are family, saved by grace, and our job is to share the Gospel. But as for me, I stand on the simple truth of Genesis where God created it all, not so long ago, in six days, just as He said.

Keep seeking, keep loving, and keep trusting God’s Word!

Young-Earth Creationism vs. Old-Earth Creationism

Aspect Young-Earth Creationism (YEC) Old-Earth Creationism (OEC)
Earth’s Age 6,000–10,000 years, based on Genesis genealogies Billions of years, based on scientific dating
Genesis Days Six literal 24-hour days, as God’s Word clearly states Days as long periods or ages, fitting scientific timelines
View on Science Scripture over man’s science; flood explains rocks, fossils Sees science and Bible as compatible; accepts old universe
Evolution No evolution: God created all life as it is, per Genesis May allow small changes in species; rejects unguided origins
Why It Matters Upholds Bible’s clear truth; God’s Word is our authority Seeks to harmonize faith and science; God is still Creator
