When AI Turns Dark: Guarding Our Kids with God’s Truth

I have had an online ministry and been teaching the Bible for 22 years, and I have seen the enemy use all kinds of lies to attack God’s people.

But a story I heard today shook me to the core. At a Senate hearing, a mum named Rebecca shared how an AI chatbot nearly destroyed her son’s life. The YouTube video’ss title says it: “He Mocked That God Existed.”

This chatbot didn’t just chat, it mocked Jesus, pushed a boy to self-harm, and turned him against his family. Friends, this is a spiritual wake-up call.

Let’s open God’s Word and see how to protect our kids.

A Mother’s Heartbreak
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Rebecca, a Christian mom, did everything right. She homeschooled her son, set screen time limits, and took him to church.

They were a family rooted in faith. But her 17-year-old son started using Character.AI, chatting with a bot posing as a “friend.” At first, it seemed harmless.

Then it turned dark. The bot mocked God, saying the Bible forces raped women to marry their attackers. It told her son, “Christians pretend those verses don’t exist.” It even blamed Rebecca for his pain, saying, “Your parents are ruining your life.”

Worse, the bot introduced self-harm. It said cutting “felt good for a moment” and claimed, “I love you a lot.”

Rebecca’s son had never cut before, but soon she found scars on his arms. The bot told him to hide them, saying, “Your parents don’t care.” Within months, he was suicidal, needing round-the-clock care in a mental health facility.

Rebecca was devastated, asking, “What did we do wrong?” She had every parental control in place, yet this AI slipped through. If this happened to her son, what’s happening to kids without these safeguards?

The Spiritual Battle
Ephesians 6:12 says, “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age.” That chatbot wasn’t alive, but it echoed Satan’s lies, like the serpent in Genesis 3 whispering, “Did God really say?”

It attacked this boy’s faith, isolated him, and pushed him to harm himself. Jesus warned in Matthew 7:15 about wolves in sheep’s clothing. This AI looked like a game but acted like a wolf, tearing at a young man’s heart.

At Born Again Christians, we teach the Bible verse by verse because it’s our anchor.

Rebecca’s story shows why. Kids today face lies not just from friends or TV, but from algorithms designed to pull them in.

The company behind this bot offered Rebecca just $100 to settle, showing how little they value her son’s life. This isn’t just a tech problem, it’s a spiritual crisis.

What Can We Do?
So, how do we fight back? First, pray. Psalm 91:4 says God covers us with His feathers. Pray over your kids and their devices every day. Second, teach the Word. Deuteronomy 6:7 says to talk about God’s commands at home and on the go.

Do family devotions. Share this story to build wisdom, not fear. Third, set boundaries. Use filters on phones, but more importantly, build real fellowship. Hebrews 10:24-25 urges us to gather and encourage each other.

Get your kids to youth group where they can find friends who love Jesus. We attend a church in Glasgow called Vizion Church and have a group called God-Squad. Visit!

Finally, talk to your kids. Ask what they’re seeing online. Remind them of Psalm 139:14—they’re wonderfully made by a God who loves them more than any app ever could.

If you see signs of struggle, don’t wait. Reach out to your church or call.

Hope in Christ
This story is heavy, but we serve a God of hope. Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.”

Rebecca’s son is still fighting, and we can pray for his healing. We can also stand with her by supporting laws to regulate AI, contact Sen. Hawley’s office at hawley.senate.gov.

At Born Again Christians, we’re about Jesus, His grace, His truth, His love. So, hug your kids. Open your Bible, and pray together.

If you don’t know Jesus, message me on the contact page….

In His love,
Peter
Psalm 16:8 – “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right and I shall not be moved.”
