Written by Born Again Christians on 05 March 2018
Definition: The word salvation simply means deliverance. It was commonly used to describe a person who is delivered from danger that threatens him.
Example: A person saved from a drowning
A. The person to be saved was in danger
B. Someone saw his peril and went to his rescue
C. The rescuer was successful in his mission
1. Salvation is a necessity
A. Mans sin
Mans sin nature is a fact! In the Bible man is described as a sinner, needing forgiveness; lost, needing found; doomed, needing deliverance; guilty, needing pardoned; spiritually dead, needing life.
Romans 5:12,18,19; Ephesians 2:1-3; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4; Mark 7:20-23
B. God's Righteousness.
God is holy and must punish sin. Exodus 34:6-7
God has revealed His hatred of sin and His sentence against those who die in their sins - eternal banishment. John 8:21-24; Luke 16:22-31
Since man is a sinner and God is righteous man must be delivered or saves.
2. Salvation's Provision
A. Through Christ
God has provided salvation to us through Jesus Christ. John 3:16; Luke 19:10
B. To God's Satisfaction
Christ assumed the full liability of our guilt and sin, He bore our sins in His own body. Christ was our substitute.
2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 5:6-9; Acts 4:10-12; 1 Peter 2:24
3. Salvation's Condition
Repentance is a change of mind which results in a change of attitude toward sin, self, the Saviour and salvation. Luke 13:3; Acts 17:31
We must believe God concerning the person of Christ. 1 john 5:9-13
We must accept Christ as our Saviour and Lord. Romans 10:9-10; John 1:12
4. Salvations assurance
How may we know for certain that we are saved and have everlasting life in Christ? 1 John 5:13; John 3:16-17; John 10:28-30
Does this mean I will never sin?
God tells us we will sin after we are saved. 1 John 1:8-10
Does this affect my salvation?
Justification - God will view me as if I never sinned
Sanctification - My daily walk with God as I become more like Him
